According to Rotoworld, Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) is active for Week 1.
FFX: According to the report, McGahee looked good in practice on Saturday, but it is still unclear if McGahee will start on Sunday. Being active doesn't necessarily mean that he will play, or play a lot. If we had to guess, Ray Rice is the safer start in Week 1, but it's just a guess at this point. You'd have to think that Rice will have to play a lot, even if McGahee does in fact play, plus... Cam Cameron is the type to commit to one running back and just rest his somewhat injured player. If you have a MUCH safer option, roll with it in Week 1, but know that this situation is only tricky in Week 1 - We stand by the McGahee/Rice combo in 2008 and it should produce top 8-10RB numbers at Week 16's end. If you don't have a MUCH safer option in Week 1, know that if Rice gets the start he should have a fine Week 1 outing. Keep checking back.
Eagles WR Reggie Brown is inactive for week 1. Other players listed as in active are: WR Demetrius Williams, TE Martrez Milner, WR Michael Clayton, WR Michael Bennett, WR Ernest Wilford, RB Gary Russell, WR Donnie Avery, WR Robert Meachem, TE Ben Watson.
The Denver Broncos locked up their most important free agent, reaching a five-year, $32 million deal with linebacker D.J Williams on Saturday.
According to GastonGazette.com's Steve Reed, Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams wil start in Week 1, but Reed expects Jonathan Stewart to get double-digit carries. The Panthers writer predicts Williams getting about 16 carries and Stewart around a 12.
FFX: That's a solid prediction by the Panthers writer. If you own both backs and have to decide to roll with just one of the two, Williams is the better start. Stewart is very capable and could excel down the stretch in 2008, but for now Williams has the advantage.
According to HoustonTexans.com's Brooke Bentley, Texans RB Ahman Green (hamstring) will start Week 1 and could get up to 15 carries in the contest.
FFX: We have no hardcore proof on this, but we suspect that Steve Slaton is going to steal the show in Week 1. Green could get those 15 carries that this Texans writer projects, but we have a feeling that Green won't be up for the task. Green has been hammered with injuries over the past few seasons, so it's hard to imagine him staying healthy at all this season. Anything is possible, but Slaton is one of our super-sleeper candidates this season. If you own Slaton, also consider rostering Chris Taylor - The combo could prove to be a very decent flex-option when all is said and done in 2008.
The Arizona Cardinals placed center Al Johnson on injured reserve Saturday, sidelining him for the seaso
The San Francisco 49ers added quarterback Alex Smith to their injury report Saturday, listing him as doubtful for Sunday's game against Arizona with another problem in his surgically repaired right shoulde
According to WashingtonPost.com, Redskins head coach Jim Zorn is not happy with his play calling or his quarterback play after Thursday's game against the Giants. "He's so big, and I just want him to move faster," Zorn said of the 6-foot-5 Campbell, who completed 15 of 27 passes Thursday night for 133 yards with a touchdown and an 81.2 passer rating. "And we'll continue to work on it. I'm not discouraged with a lot of the things he did. I just want him to get better." According to the report, some scouts and executives believe that the team will eventually have to either change the scheme or the quarterback.
FFX: We already own Colt Brennan in two of our deep dynasty expert leagues - That's how much we like Brennan. Campbell has talent, and we're not saying to go scoop up Brennan just yet in every size league, as he is still fighting for the team's primary back-up job, but we see talent in that kid and we think that he has what it takes to start in this league. Brennan is a super-sleeper in the largest of dynasty leagues.
Until a knee injury sent him to the sideline, running back Ronnie Brown was the best thing about the Miami Dolphins' wretched 2007 seaso

According to MiamiHerald.com, Dolphins RB Ricky Williams believes that he and Ronnie Brown will split carries in Week 1. ''Doesn't matter,'' Williams said casually. "We're both going to get the same number of carries.''
FFX: Ricky is just being a good sport, as Ricky is fully expected to get more touches in Week 1. Dolphins coach Tony Sparano had this to say on his two rushers: "Ricky's really played more out there than Ronnie [Brown], so we'll start the game now with Ricky, but Ronnie will be in the game very soon.'' For now, Ricky is the better start, but we expect the roles to reverse come mid-season. That said, Brown (ACL) won't 100 percent until 2009.
According to NFL.com, 31-year-old Shaun Alexander believes that his signing with an NFL team is imminent. He also said that a handful of teams have been giving him "a constant flow of calls," including Cincinnati. "They want me to be Tres Siete," Alexander said of Cincy, playing off of the recent name change of Bengals WR Chad Ocho Cinco.
FFX: Alexander could resurface in a place like Cincy, but just be sure not to count on it working out fantasy-wise. He will likely find work after Week 1 begins - His value will just depend on where he lands.
The Dallas Cowboys are prepared to use cornerback Adam Jones in place of injured Pro Bowler Terence Newman as the starting left cornerback for Sunday's season-opener against the Cleveland Browns
According to reports, Colts QB Peyton Manning is listed as probable for Week 1.
FFX: If you own Peyton Manning, it's safe to get him back in your line-up. Of course we advise that fantasy owners keep checking back with us all the way up to kickoff, but the Colts QB looks like a go. We still have Tom Brady and Tony Romo ranked ahead of Peyton looking forward, but Manning is easily capable of leading the league in both yards and touchdowns in 2008. He is a top three lock at quarterback this year.
According to BaltimoreSun.com, Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) is listed as probable for Week 1. That said, McGahee reportedly projects that he has a 50/50 shot at playing this week.
FFX: Our guess is that Cam Cameron will decide to go with one back and give McGahee another week to get right. This would mean that rookie Ray Rice would start and be a sneaky-solid RB2 in Week 1. Keep checking back, because McGahee could still start Week 1, or at least play a lot... but again, our guess is that Cameron will either play McGahee and play him often, or he will tell his starter to sit it out for just one more week. We will certainly keep you posted.
According to TwinCities.com, despite not practicing on Friday, Packers RB Ryan Grant (hamstring) is listed as probable for Week 1.
FFX: Grant is not a good start this week against the league's No. 1 ranked rushing defense. We'd be shocked if Grant reached 70 rushing yards against that unit and don't expect a rushing touchdown. Minny gave up just 7 rushing touchdowns all of last year. Not everyone overreacts to bad outings against top rated defenses, but if you like Grant this season, try trading for him after this week. That said, we still aren't sure what Grant is going to do this year (stat-wise) without Favre.
According to Rotoworld, Jets WR Laveranues Coles is listed as questionable for Week 1.
FFX: This news just makes Cotchery that much more attractive in Week 1. Coles could still play, so keep checking back if you own the guy, but we recommend looking for a safer start this week. Not sure who to start in Coles' place? Well, get on our FFX Forums and ask the growing FFX forum community, which is now well over 2,000 strong.
According to PalmBeachPost.com, Dolphins RB Ricky Williams will in fact start Week 1. "Ricky's going to start the game, yes, but Ronnie is going to play a bunch, and that's the way it goes," Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said.
FFX: We have been advising that fantasy owners stay away from this situation if possible in 2008... it's just too cloudy. Ronnie Brown (ACL) was a stud last year, and he could return to stud-form in the coming years, but he will need a full season of playing on his healing knee before he shows signs of old. Expect this situation to get worse before it gets better, but one runner should be running the show come mid-season. Who will that be? If we had to guess, Ronnie, but it's just a guess... this situation is going to be frustrating to those trying to weather through it early on.

According to Cleveland.com, Browns RB Jamal Lewis (hamstring) will be a game-time decision on Sunday against the Cowboys.
FFX: Lewis is looking like a risky play entering Week 1. Obviously check back with us all week on this one.
According Jacksonville.com, Jaguars WR Jerry Porter (hamstring) has been ruled out of Week 1.
FFX: Matt Jones will likely start opposite Reggie Williams in Week 1. Porter is one of our favorite fantasy WR3s in 2008, so we're hoping for a speedy return.
Packers running back Ryan Grant and defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila missed practice Friday as a precaution heading into Monday night's opener against Minnesot
According to BaltimoreSun.com, the Ravens are preparing as if Ray Rice will be starting in Week 1. Even if Willis McGahee (knee) plays, he won't be at full strength.
FFX: As we've said over and over, the key to this potential top 8RB situation is owning both McGahee and Rice. If McGahee isn't ready for Week 1, Cameron is the type to make him sit and get healthy, which means Rice will likely start Week 1 and get all the touches. This is McGahee's team, so when he is healthy, he will start and likely produce top 7-8RB numbers upon his return. Until then, even if for just one or two games, Rice is capable of top 10RB numbers under Cameron. The Baltimore running back situation is more secure than most think, but as we have continued to stress, you need both to get that guaranteed weekly Cam Cameron production.
The return of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Deion Branch is going to wait at least a wee
The Eagles could play the season opener without their two top wide receivers after Reggie Brown missed his second straight practice Frida
According to Chargers.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates (toe) will in fact start Week 1. "I'm going to start the game, obviously," Gates said to the media.
FFX: Gates still said that his injured toe is tricky, but some days he feels like Superman. Expect Gates to contribute enough in Week 1 to deserve a start in fantasy leagues, but only if you don't have an overwhelming alternative (like a Vernon Davis). Gates should easily finish inside the top three for TEs at Week 16's end.

A federal document says an inmate told authorities that a truck swap was linked to the death of Broncos cornerback Darrent William
Giants RB Brandon Jacobs rumbled for 116 rushing yards on 21 carries on Thursday night against the Redskins.
FFX: Jacobs is a beast! The guy is so fun to watch. While we expect the 6-4, 264 pound-animal to get banged up at some point, you can still guarantee yourself solid RB2-type production if you handcuff him to both Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw. It's a creative way to fill that RB2 slot on your roster, so keep that in mind if you're already looking to mix things up heading into this weekend. Another creatively cheap RB2 combo is Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall. That Steelers combo could prove just as productive, but we really like Jacobs/Ward/Bradshaw this year as a RB2.
Redskins RB Clinton Portis ran the football 23 times for 84 yards on Thursday night against the Giants. Portis had no touchdowns.
FFX: Portis fantasy owners were handed some mediocre fantasy stats tonight, but we have a feeling that the Redskins rusher will have a handful more of these types of outings in the coming season. It's tough to predict injury, as no one can truly predict such a thing with confident accuracy, but we have made it a point to stay clear of this guy in all of our expert leagues this year. Given the cost of Portis this past August, which was a late first- or early second-round pick, on draft day we felt that there were safer options available. Call it a gut feeling, but we feel that consistency is going to be a huge problem in Washington this year. We'd rather have Brandon Jacobs (with Ward/Bradshaw handcuffed) over Portis in 2008.
Giants WR Plaxico Burress exploded on Thursday night against the Giants, catching 10 passes for 133 yards. Eli Manning started off hot, but finished with just 216 passing yards, 0TDs passing and 1 INT. Manning did rush for a score during the game's first drive.
FFX: Tonight Eli Manning confirmed that he can certainly feed the ball to Plaxico Burress, but he just isn't build to be a solid fantasy quarterback. Look for Eli to be a borderline QB12 this season, on and off, but expect a whole lot more of Burress in the coming season. Burress is one of this year's sneakiest WR1s. Most fantasy owners probably drafted Burress as a low-end WR2. Well, you crafty drafters are about to get solid WR1 production out of your fourth-round pick.
Redskins WR Santana Moss caught 5 passes for 37 yards and 1TD on Thursday night against the Giants. Antwaan Randle El caught 7 passes for 73 yards.
FFX: Both receivers did well on Thursday night, but Washington may play a bit inconsistent this season. Santana is still an effective fantasy WR3 entering this upcoming year, and El is a decent bye week type. Moss has fantasy WR2-type talent, but he needs Jason Campbell to step up... until that happens, count on Moss as your third.
According to SignOnSanDiego.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates does not expect to contribute as usual this Sunday against the Panthers. “I won't start the game, obviously, but just trying to monitor the situation and do all I can,” Gates said. “ . . . Just depending how it feels when I get out there, how I feel and whatever (the staff wants) me to do. Gates also added: “This thing (toe) is so tricky on what I'm able to do. There's times I'm out here and I feel like I'm Superman, and then there's times I come out here and it just won't allow me to do certain things. Sunday will definitely tell the tale and give me a clear picture of what I can do in the game.”
FFX: Gates won't be the safest start this week after all, but it's great news that he is close. If you have a safer option, roll with it in Week 1, but know that Gates is well on his way back to healthy and is still a top three TE looking forward.
Giants QB Eli Manning ran in a score on the team's first drive on Thursday night against the Redskins. Plaxico Burress caught three passes for 60 yards on that opening drive.
FFX: This Giants team looks solid. We still wouldn't consider Eli a safe fantasy starter, but he may just prove us wrong this season. As for Burress... all we can say is WOW. Burress could turn out to be one of the bigger steals at the wide receiver position when all is said and done in 2008. Now get back to watching the game, FFXtremers!
Browns QB Derek Anderson is no longer on the team's Week 1 injury report.
FFX: Get ready for a breakout 2008 campaign. We brought you breakout candidates like Tony Romo (2007) and Carson Palmer (2005)... both weren't even in most Site's top 10-12 ranked QBs heading into those breakout seasons... Well, Derek Anderson is our next top 5-6 breakout quarterback and it all starts in Week 1 against Dallas.
Browns WR Braylon Edwards is no longer on the team's Week 1 injury report.
FFX: Get ready for monster seasons by both Derek Anderson and Braylon Edwards. Anderson has the ability and weapons to be a top 5-6 fantasy QB in 2008, and Edwards has the talent and situation to finish as this year's No. 1 fantasy WR when all is said and done.

According to NJ.com, Dolphins RB Ricky Williams could get nearly 20 carries in Week 1.

Chad Johnson is no more. It's officially Chad Ocho Cinco in the NF
Daunte Culpepper has retired from the NF
According to Chargers.com, Chargers TE Antonio Gates fully participated during Wednesday's practice.
FFX: Gates looks like a lock to start Week 1, but obviously keep checking back with us to be sure that the tight end doesn't suffer a setback. Jason Witten feels like the safest fantasy TE in 2008, but Gates is right behind him, followed by Kellen Winslow.
According to Post-Gazette.com, there are "sneaky suspicions" by some members of the Houston media that suggest that Texans RB Steve Slaton will be used more than coach Gary Kubiak is letting on. "He is one of those young kids that has gotten better each week at camp," Kubiak said. "He has improved and we are asking him to do a lot of the things he did in West Virginia. He is probably one of our most improved players week-in and week-out ... he is going to be a factor for our team. He is going to be on the field to help us win and we can't wait to get him out there."
FFX: We really like Slaton this year and we feel that he can be a very solid flex in '08. It's ideal to handcuff the guy to RB Chris Taylor, but Slaton feels like the one to own in Houston this year.

FFX: Brady could be listed as questionable this week against the Chiefs, but we expect him to go. Obviously keep checking back with us on this one.

According to CBS4Denver.com, Broncos WR Brandon Marshall wants to catch 140 passes in 2008. Marvin Harrison holds the single-season receptions record with 143 back in 2002.
FFX: It's nice to hear that this kid has football on his mind. While we still have our concerns, you may have noticed the receiver climbing up our receiver rankings each and every week. If healthy, and if he stays out of trouble, 100+ catches is certainly possible. We wouldn't bank on anything even close to 140, especially since he is suspended for Week 1, but 100 or so is doable.
According to DenverPost.com's Mike Klis, the Broncos will likely rotate running backs Selvin Young and Andre Hall through the first seven weeks of the 2008 season. Klis then suggests that rookie Ryan Torain (elbow) will take over down the stretch.
FFX: While there is no Broncos confirmation on this info, we agree that this is how it will all play out. We have said from the start that Selvin Young is a great "trade now" candidate - We still believe that. If you don't want to trade Young, we highly suggest that you own both Andre Hall and Ryan Torain. Even then you're not completely covered, as Mike Shanahan is capable of anything, but at least you eliminate a lot of risk. We predict that Selvin Young doesn't start more than eight games in 2008.
According to ESPN.com, Jags RB Fred Taylor was in fact arrested over the weekend and charged with disorderly conduct. A report initially surfaced earlier this week suggesting that the runner was arrested over the weekend, but a second report claimed that he had not. This new ESPN report states that Taylor was ordered, at gunpoint by police, to get out of his car, he was then patted down and handcuffed while a K-9 unit searched his vehicle reportedly looking for drugs. He was then arrested. All of this occurred outside a Miami Beach nightclub over the weekend, according to a police report that was reportedly released on Tuesday.
FFX: Taylor reportedly yelled at officers repeatedly before being arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The Jaguars rusher was given a misdemeanor. "As officers began to check vehicle for weapons, defendant became vocal again and attempted to [incite] the crowd of bystanders," the report said. The report also said this on Taylor: "He was advised to quiet down ... for a third time. When defendant did not and continued his loud behavior, he was arrested." This could lead to a suspension, but that is speculation at this point. We will go get more info on this - Keep checking back! Just know, no matter how this turns out, this is Maurice Jones-Drew's season! Top 10RB numbers are in the cards in 2008.

I’ve never said he’s going to get 300, and I probably never will.”
FFX: Mularkey isn't saying that Turner can't hit 300 carries, he just doesn't want to commit his offense to any specific numbers. Turner should have right around 300 carries and we expect a breakout campaign in 2008.

According to BaltimoreSun.com, Ravens RB Willis McGahee (knee) practiced on Monday. McGahee missed all four preseason games after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, but the running back is getting closer to 100 percent. "I wouldn’t say he’s 100 percent just [from] watching him run around out there," Harbaugh said of McGahee. "But he was out there. We’ll just have to see how he progresses this week. He wants to be out there, I know that.”
FFX: We continue to beat a dead horse on this topic, but Willis McGahee owners have to own Ray Rice this year. Under Cam Cameron this season, the combo is sure to succeed, but you need both. Rice is capable of being a top 10-12RB under Cameron, and McGahee has top 5-7RB upside under the offensive mastermind.
According to BaltimoreSun.com, rookie quarterback Joe Flacco will start Week 1 for the Ravens.
FFX: Flacco is the best quarterback on that roster, so honestly this doesn't surprise us much. We have been high on this kid all off-season and think that he has the tools needed to be an excellent quarterback in this league. Obviously he isn't starter material in fantasy leagues just yet, but dynasty owners have to be excited.
According to MLive.com, the Lions have signed RB Rudi Johnson to a one-year deal. The Lions also cut Tatum Bell.
FFX: This is a great spot for Rudi, as we like rookie Kevin Smith, but we feel he is a bit too raw to start 16 games as a rookie. Given Smith's huge 2007 workload in college, Rudi could start quite a few games in 2008. Nice move for the Lions.

According to Bengals.com, Bengals WR Chad Ocho Cinco, formally known as Chad Johnson, said that he he only desired to talk football and not about his new legally-changed name. Ocho Cinco claims that his shoulder is 100 percent and that he is ready to practice on Monday for the first time since he suffered a labrum 15 days ago.
FFX: "I've got a lot of making up to do to a lot of people," said Ocho Cinco, who indicated that he would like the media use his new legal name. "Not to just my teammates and coaches, (but) from the top all the way down. I pissed a lot of people off in the offseason. I've got to become completely focused. No distractions. I have to stay an attraction and be extraordinary in what I do." It's tough to say how healthy Chad's shoulder is, as it could be worse than everyone thinks, or it could be a lot healthier than everyone thinks. As we've said in articles and news postings all last week... the best solution for Chad Ocho Cinco owners in 2008 is to ride it out and handcuff him to Chris "Uno" Cinco. Chirs Henry will be gold if Chad goes down, and No. 15 actually makes a fine fantasy WR3 even if Chad is on the field in 2008. Just know that Henry is suspended for the first four games of the season.
NFL players will wear a uniform patch this season to honor NFL Players' Association leader Gene Upshaw, who died Aug. 2
According to Rotoworld, Browns QB Derek Anderson (concussion) returned to practice today.
FFX: Anderson is clearly ready to start Week 1. The quarterback is a must-start and should be in for a breakout 2008 campaign (think Carson Palmer and Tony Romo during their breakout seasons).
According to Rotoworld, Browns WR Braylon Edwards (foot) returned to practice today.
FFX: Braylon Edwards and Derek Anderson are both ready to rumble. Be sure to check back with us throughout the week just in case, but expect the two studs to connect early and often in Week 1 against the Cowboys. This could be a high scoring contest for of wide receiver highlights.

According to ESPN.com, Browns QB Derek Anderson will start in Week 1 against the Cowboys. "Barring any unforeseen event, [Anderson] is going to play," a source told ESPN.
FFX: Anderson has top 5-6 QB upside entering 2008. With Braylon Edwards, Donte Stallworth and Kellen Winslow pulling in his passes this season, the sky is the limit. Obviously there are some lingering concerns about Anderson's recent concussion, but it sounds like he is good to go.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson will start next Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, a source told ESPN.com Sunday night
The Detroit Lions have claimed RB Marcus Thomas off of waivers (from the Chargers), so Thomas is now the Lions RB3 heading into 2008.
FFX: Thomas is a big physical runner and he could end up getting goal line touches early on in 2008. We like this guy a lot. Keep an eye on him in very large leagues.

According to Sun-Sentinel.com, Dolphins RB Ricky Williams will start over Ronnie Brown, who is still recovering from a 2007 ACL injury.
FFX: The Dolphins running back situation is a cloudy one heading into this upcoming season. Brown could get close to his 2007 form after Week 8 or so, but expect him to start off slow right out of the gate. Ricky is a solid flex-option to begin the year, but he has to prove that he can stay healthy before we ever consider counting on him. If you own one of the two backs, you really should own the other... having the combo is the only way to ensure you have a starter on a weekly basis.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Jets RB Jesse Chatman has not been released by the Jets, like some earlier reports suggested. However, the runner has been suspended for four games for "violating the NFL Policy on Steroids and Related Substances," according to PFT.
FFX: Chatman is loaded with talent and could have thrived in New York if the team had ever needed him to start in place of starter Thomas Jones. This is a big setback for Chatman. Leon Washington is now the clear back-up to Jones heading into the season and he is a must-own for Jones owners.
According to DenverPost.com, Broncos RB Anthony Alridge has a torn ligament in his left foot and will miss the entire 2008 season.
FFX: Tough break for Alrdige, who proved explosive in the team's most recent preseason outing. This is initially solid news for Selvin Young owners, but we still stand by our "Trade Selvin Young now while you still can" stance. Ryan Torain (elbow) should be back around Week 7, and even if he isn't, another runner will eventually grab that starting gig at some point this season. Shanny just doesn't stick with one runner anymore, and even if he did jump back to that style of coaching all of the sudden, we doubt Young is the back that he decides to do that with. Michael Pittman and Andre Hall don't seem like huge threats, but don't for a second think that you know what is going on in Shanahan's head when it comes to his rushing attack. He could still add a rusher in the next week.
According to Jacksonville.com, it appears that Jags RB Fred Taylor was ticketed for disorderly conduct Saturday outside a Miami Beach nightclub, he was not reportedly arrested. “It’s nothing more than a ticket, just like if you were pulled over for speeding or pulled over with a problem with your license and they give you a date and a time and a document to appear,” Taylor's attorney, Adam Swickle, said.
FFX: Fred Taylor has some upside this year given how far he has fallen in recent drafts, but we firmly believe that this is Jones-Drew's year. Top 7-10RB numbers are in the cards for Jones-Drew this upcoming season.

According to eastvalleytribune.com, Cardinals QB Kurt Warner will start Week 1. "It's been a long decision," coach Ken Whisenhunt said Saturday. "I was up most of the night and even this morning."
FFX: This was becoming quite clear, but now it is official. If you want a sneaky QB this season, grab both quarterbacks - With Fitz and Boldin catching passes in AZ, the Cardinals starter will perform... you just need both. There are safer options for sure, but the duo could work out well when all is said and done in 2008.

RB Fred Taylor was arrested outside of a Miami Beach nightclub on Sunday morning - He was charged with disorderly conduct.
FFX: This could lead to a suspension, possibly a game or two, but we don't know that for sure. If Taylor does miss Week 1, expect our breakout candidate, MJD, to get off to hot start in 2008. We really believe that the little guy could outperform his draft value by an entire round, which would make him a top 7ish RB at Week 16's end.
Jets running back Jesse Chatman has been suspended without pay for the team's first four regular-season games for violating the NFL's steroids and related-substances polic
According to Bengals.com, the Bengals have released RB Rudi Johnson. Chris Perry is now the clear starter in heading into September.
FFX: If Perry can stay healthy, he could have a real nice fantasy season. The problem is that he just can't stay healthy. Still, if you own Perry, you probably got him at bargain value and you should absolutely ride it out. Kenny Wason is now the back-up in Cincy.
According to Chron.com, the Texans have placed RB Chris Brown (back) on injured reserve, ending his season. Brown, 27, has battled back problems all through training camp.
FFX: Ahman Green is technically the starter in Houston, but like Brown, Green can't stay healthy. Expect rookie Steve Slaton, or Chris Taylor, to start early on in the season - The combo of the two is actually a very solid flex given the price. Slaton would be our No. 1a, and Taylor our 1b, if forced to rank the two right this very second.
According to Chron.com, the Texans have placed RB Chris Brown (back) on injured reserve, ending his season. Brown, 27, has battled back problems all through training camp.

Broncos rookie RB Anthony Alridge carried the football 23 times for 110 yards on Friday night against the Cardinals. He also added 13 yards on two catches.
FFX: Keep an eye on this undrafted rookie, as coach Mike Shanahan isn't in the habit of sticking with one running back anymore. Selvin Young is the clear starter heading into this upcoming season, but that doesn't guarantee him anything. Now Alridge is only 5-9, 175 pounds, but that doesn't mean he can't start a handful of games for Shanny in '08. He won't be a long-term answer for that Denver rushing attack, or for any team's rushing attack, but Shanahan is know for rolling with his rookies. If you're a Young owner, keep in mind that Ryan Torain (elbow) is still targeting a Week 7 return. We predict that Denver has at least three different starters in 2008.

FFX: It's becoming more and more clear that Manning will be good to go for Week 1. We still have Tom Brady ranked #1 overall heading into September, and Tony Romo #2... but Manning is our clear #3 ranked quarterback this upcoming season.
Colts coach Tony Dungy has spent weeks answering questions about Peyton Manning's left kne
According to ESPN.com, a Miami radio station (790 The Ticket), which is in Chad Johnson's hometown, is reporting that the receiver has legally changed his last name to "Ocho Cinco." According to 790 The Ticket, it's official.

Accordingto CBS4Denver.com, Broncos WR Brandon Marshall's suspension has been reduced to one game. Sources suggest that Marshall will now only be suspended for one game and an additional game paycheck, which now makes it two games without pay - He was initially suspended three games.
FFX: Great news for Marshall owners - We still question this kid's decision making ability, but this obviously gives the guy a nice rankings bump. We just moved him back above Roy Williams and Anquan Boldin, but we still have him below receivers like T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Torry Holt, Santonio Holmes and even Plaxico Burress.

According to GreenBayPressGazette.com, Packers RB Ryan Grant is expected to make his preseason debut on Thursday night. Grant hasn't had a lot of practice reps so far this preseason, so the back is not expected to play long in Thursday's game.
FFX: Grant's 2008 success will be directly correlated to the success of Aaron Rodgers. Now, in general, most here at FFX do not believe in Aaron Rodgers, at least in terms of being able to lead this team to a winning season. If we're right, this is bad news for Grant, who will see a lot of eight-man fronts in 2008. Grant could still earn his second-round draft slot when all is said and done in '08, but it's too bad Grant no longer has Favre standing in front of him on Sundays. With Favre in a Packers uniform, Grant would have played like a first-round pick.
According to KansasCity.com, Chiefs RB Larry Johnson will play in tonight's game against the Rams.
FFX: Johnson has 79 preseason yards on 22 carries so far, which isn't a great average, but the back has proven to be fully healthy from last year's season-ending foot injury. Johnson has looked explosive, speedy and has found the end zone this preseason. We believe that L.J. is going to have a top 10RB season in 2008, despite the threat of seeing a lot of eight-man fronts early on. If you haven't drafted yet, don't hesitate to select L.J. at the bottom of the first-round. If healthy in '08, he should earn that draft selection with ease.

According to PressDemocrat.com, 49ers WR Josh Morgan will not play in Friday's preseason game against the Chargers.
FFX: Morgan had a chance to grab that starting wide receiver spot opposite Isaac Bruce, but Bryant Johnson will now likely grab the gig back. We still suggest that fantasy owners keep an eye on Josh Morgan, as he still has a decent amount of dynasty appeal in extremely large dynasty leagues.
According to Rotoworld, the Colts "upped Peyton Manning's (knee) practice workload" yesterday, proving that the quarterback is well on his way to starting Week 1.
FFX: This is a great sign - Expect Peyton Manning to be ready for Week 1 against the Bears. Fantasy owners should also expect the quarterback to put up top 3QB numbers this year.
According to ESPN.com, rookie QB Matt Ryan, along with two other Falcon players, were involved in a minor car accident while on their way to the team's Flowery Branch complex. The vehicle that all three players were traveling in was stopped at a red light when another car slid into them on a wet road.
FFX: A team spokesman reported that all three players were not injured and ended up making the trip with the team to Baltimore on Wednesday night. The Falcons face the Ravens in the team's final preseason outing.

Post-Gazette.com's Ed Bouchette expects rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall to get "plenty of time" at running back this season.
FFX: If Willie Parker falls victim to injury, Rashard Mendenhall could crank out top 10-12RB numbers in 2008. That said, FWP looks solid and is ready to rumble in '08. Even with a healthy FWP breaking off runs this season, that doesn't mean that Mendy isn't going to be flex-worthy right out of the gate - Because he will. Still, Mendy's real fantasy value could come down the stretch this fantasy season and his future first-round potential will start surface as the 2008 season comes to a close. This time next year, we believe Mendy could be a consistent first-round pick.

According to FoxSports.com, Chargers LB Shawne Merriman (torn LCL, PCL) is expected to go against the advice of "several noted specialists" and play football in 2008. "I'm putting the surgery off until I need it," Merriman said.
FFX: If you play in an IDP league, immediately check your waiver wire, as some fantasy owners may have already dropped the LB. It's tough to say if he will play extremely well, or how long he will last this season - Playing on a damaged knee like that, especially with a torn LCL and PCL, could cost him his career. Hopefully he makes it through the season, but to do so, he will probably have to play a lot less snaps.

According to CantonRep.com, Browns head Coach Romeo Crennel suggested that WR Braylon Edwards (foot/stitches) is progressing well. "I've been told that (Edwards) will be there and practicing for that game," Crennel said after Edwards sat out another practice. "Next week, if he's out here, then I'll believe it."
FFX: Edwards should be ready to rumble in Week 1. We're extremely high on Edwards and that Cleveland offense in 2008. We expect Edwards to rival Randy Moss for that top WR spot this upcoming season, and we expect Derek Anderson to consistently have a cup of coffee with the top 5QBs.

According to Bengals.com, in order for Bengals RB Rudi Johnson to get back the starting running back job, Marvin Lewis says that the runner has to show "he's a better ballplayer" than RB Chris Perry when the Bengals play their final preseason game on Thursday night against the Colts.
FFX: Don't count Rudi out, but Perry appears to have the clear advantage in this position battle. If we had to draft just one runner right this second, we'd take Perry, but keep in mind that Perry always has a tough time staying healthy. Handcuffing both backs together is the only sound solution if you wish to roll with that Cincy backfield in 2008.
According to Rotoworld, the Nashville Tennessean is reporting that Titans coach Jeff Fisher anticipates a near even split in carries between running backs LenDale White and rookie Chris Johnson. "I would assume it would be close to 50-50, maybe 60-40," he said. "We’re going to use them both depending on the game plans and it makes sense to take advantage of both of their abilities. I think we’ll have a better gauge once we get to the middle part of the season."
FFX: We suggest that fantasy owners let someone else draft LenDale White in 2008 - Just go straight for Chris Johnson, who we eventually expect to start for the Titans. He is almost no risk (given where you can draft him) and all upside (given he has elite talent and is in a solid rushing attack).

According to ESPN.com, Colts QB Peyton Manning (knee surgery) had this to say about practicing on Tuesday: "This is a significant step for me to get back out on the practice field," Manning. "If things go well, as we expect they will, then I hope to be full go next week and ready for the season opener."
FFX: There is always risk with these situations, but it appears relatively safe to count on Peyton Manning being ready for Week 1. We still have Tom Brady and Tony Romo ranked ahead of Manning heading into 2008, but Manning is our clear No. 3.

According to IndyStar.com, Colts QB Peyton Manning practiced today and already, at times, looked like the "same, old Peyton" during some throwing drills and drop backs.
FFX: Peyton Manning was not even wearing a knee brace on Tuesday, which is fantastic news for Manning owners. We still have Tony Romo ahead of Manning heading into 2008, but it sounds like the Colts' stud is well on his way to starting Week 1. We will keep you updated on the quarterback's progress - Keep checking back with us.
According to Rotoworld, Bengals WR Chad Johnson (shoulder) is expected to return to practice on Monday.
FFX: It looks like Ocho Cinco is on track to start Week 1. It has been reported that other NFL athletes have played full seasons with Chad's shoulder injury and have done so without any problems. As we have said a few times already, there is a way to minimize some risk with this situation - Grab Chris Henry. Henry is suspended for the first four games of the 2008 season, but if starting in place of Chad later on this season (and we're hopeful that it doesn't go down like that), Henry could easily put up top 12WR numbers. Of course he would have to remain out of trouble for this to happen.
